My Story & What I Believe
My five-year training at The Gestalt Institute of Toronto has had a formative influence on my practice and approach as a psychotherapist. I have had the privilege of learning from some of the finest teachers in the field, both in North America and abroad. My commitment to personal and professional learning and growth is sincere and ongoing.
What is most important for you to know about me is that I have been there. I share this with you because I know a crucial element in a healthy therapeutic relationship is having a felt sense of resonance with your therapist. It is my experience that this resonance can only be achieved when a psychotherapist has done their own deep personal work. I began my own therapeutic work over 20 years ago, and have gone through the fires of change, transformation, and recovery. My experience and understanding serves as a foundational ground in my work with my clients. I share more of my story as and when it supports each individual I work with.
Psychotherapy is my calling. Working with clients brings me vitality and a deep sense of meaning. My practice is a big part of what gives my life purpose and direction. For me, there is a deep beauty and poetry in meeting my clients exactly where they are and doing the work of creating deeper levels of support, awareness, compassion and trust. It is from this place that the conditions for true choice and healing start to arise.

Gestalt Therapy – a thumbnail sketch
As a Gestalt therapist, I explore an embodied relational approach.
This is a fancy way of saying that I focus the attention on the present moment, the here and now, and what is emerging relationally between you and I as client and therapist. In the therapy session, I work to support you to loosen your grip on the ‘what’ of the past, by supporting your awareness of the present.
With this approach and over time you will notice that a greater freedom of choice starts to naturally and spontaneously emerge. In Gestalt therapy, we do not work with outcomes or expectations. Nor is there a cookie-cutter approach.
Your pain is uniquely yours and it is honored as such in my Gestalt approach with you. Your pain is rooted in your earliest life experiences and it is our work to bring it home and explore ways of supporting it, and yes even befriending it, in the here and now. We do this work to expand your capacity for greater choice, intimacy, joy, creativity and vitality.
